To assemble metal chair back and seat you will need all pieces shown (fig. 3). With the front and bottom edge of the chair back facing you, insert one machine screw through one of the predrilled holes in the far corner of the chair back matching the chair bottom to the chair back.  Place a 1/4" flat washer over the  machine screw and thread on a 1/4" nut, (fig.4) but do not tighten at this time.  Repeat process on opposite side. Insert third and fourth 1/4" machine screws through the two remaining inside predrilled holes.  Place a 1/4" flat washer and a 1/4" nylon locking nut onto these two inside machine screws and tighten. Tighten remaining two outside machine screws.  Locate the two metal 2" long straps with 1/4" holes, two 1/4" flat washers and two 1/4" nuts.  Place one washer and one strap over each of the two inside machine screws and secure with a 1/4" flat washer and 1/4" nut.  Refer to (fig.5) for order of this assembly. Insure the straps are at right angles (fig. 6) to the chair edge and finger tighten only at this time.  The chair back and seat are now assembled.

Return to chair frame and position it so that the front is facing toward you.  Place assembled chair seat and back into frame. Insure that the 2" metal straps mate to the INSIDE of the rear seat cross member and align with predrilled pilot holes.

side of front legLocate two 1/4" x 2" flat head machine screws, two 1/4" flat washers and two 1/4" nuts.  On each side of the front legs, find the counter sunk predrilled 1/4" hole that accepts these machine screws.  Insert  machine screws through the predrilled holes and at the same time aligning the corresponding predrilled 1/4" hole of the metal chair seat.  Once the two screws are through the leg and chair seat, place a 1/4" flat washer and 1/4" nut onto each and tighten.

align 2 metal strapsLocate two #10 x 1" pan head screws.  From the underside of the chair, locate the predrilled pilot holes on the rear cross member and align the two metal straps previously positioned on the chair seat and back.  Position a screw in each of these holes and tighten.  Tighten the two 1/4" nuts securing the metal straps.

metal chair backTurn the chair around until the back is again facing you.  Locate two #10 x 1" pan head screws.  Position the chair back so as to align the predrilled holes located on the side of chair back and the predrilled pilot holes located on the rear of each arm.  Screw in the pan head screws and tighten one but leaving the other just slightly loose to allow movement.

seat back cross memberLocate the seat back cross member, two 1/4" x 2" flat head machine screws, two 1/4" flat washers and two 1/4" nuts.  Place the machine screws into the predrilled and counter sunk 1/4" holes located on top of the very rear of each arm.  Locate the seat back cross member onto these two screws making certain that the beveled edge is sloping toward the seat back.  Place a 1/4" flat washer and 1/4" nut on you finger tip and hold them in place in the counter sunk hole on the underside of the seat back cross member.  Using a screwdriver, turn the machine screw until the nut is threaded all the way on.  Repeat for the opposite side.  Tighten these two machine screws and the remaining pan head screw used to secure the seat back to the arm.
